UW: A Transactive Campus Energy Syetem

This is a joint effort among PNNL, UW and WSU.  In particular at UW we committed to install a Li-Ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and to equip PV arrays on its campus with smart inverters.  The BESS will be used to manage the net demand of the Electrical Engineering building (EEB), and thus minimize the costs of operating the building.  Furthermore the EEB will be acting as a transactive-ready load than can respond to local (e.g. utility level) or regional (e.g. balancing authority level) transactive signals.  On the other hand, the PV generation will provide not only active power, but also local reactive supply and thus will maintain the voltages within tight operating thresholds.
